Made in Britain – a success story

Made in Britain Logo

It is not often that we come across a textile craft success story, especially one that features a product range that has created by a British engineer and is made in Britain!

One such range is that produced by K & K Quilting Limited run by the husband and wife team of Anglia and John Pickering.

Angela Pickering has been both teaching and making quilts for longer than she remembers or is prepared to admit. After her husband, John, left the RAF as a highly qualified engineer, they went into business together; she made quilts while he did logo and garment embroidery for local businesses and sports clubs.

Eventually, to improve their quilts, they investigated the use of long arm quilting machines, then only available from USA. It quickly became apparent that however good such machines were they were two big for general domestic use and were cumbersome to use.

As in many husband and wife teams John was set the task, using his engineering skills to design a range of machines suitable for both domestic and commercial use.

The result – the K & K range of Long Arm Quilting machines, the first sewing machines of any type for over 30 years that have been totally designed and made in Great Britain, in fact entirely manufactured in the county of Norfolk.

The range exhibits the best of British engineering, compact ergonomic design, ease of customer use, unique technical and operational features many of which are original and have resulted in Patent applications – who said British engineering is dead!

A range of Long Arm Quilting machines that feature as standard an AC servo motor providing the power users want at low speeds, The universal use of flat needles for ease of location and LED pin point lighting of the needle to maximize visibility.
