Workshops at the LQ&N Christmas Fair

Hanging tree garland workshop

During this workshop run by Melanie Missin, you’ll have the opportunity to make an attractive Christmas decoration that you can enjoy for years to come.

The workshop will introduce you to a technique for creating shapes than can be used as applique pieces or embellishments that can be applied to items such as quilts and bags for a one-of-a-kind design. The hanging tree garland is made using dyed Vilene, Organza, Rayon threads, Dowling and garden twine. It is sewed using Perle threads, beads and buttons, and will introduce you to the technique of heat sealing to create shape and seal edges. All materials will be provided, and you should have time to complete your hanging tree garland during the workshop.

Hopefully, your finished garland and the techniques you learn will delight and inspire you to create more fun items, not only at Christmas but all year round.

About Melanie Missin

Melanie Missin is an up and coming name in the UK’s textile community. She is also a skilled quilter, textile artist and tutor, as well as the regional chairman for Region 9 of the Quilters’ Guild. She exhibited some of her stunning work at the Festival of Quilts at Birmingham’s NEC in August, is an active member of the Embroiderers’ Guild, and runs a business called Melly Made Designs.

Melanie first began sewing and creating at the age of four, turning her hand to lots of different crafts until quilting and patchwork eventually captured her heart ten years ago.

During this workshop, you will be able to ask Melanie questions and learn from someone who has managed to make quilting her career and, as she describes it, ‘the best job in the world’
